It reflects the experience and opinions of the people who write it, drawn from real bench work, but it is not professional conservation advice and shouldn't be treated as a substitute for consulting a trained conservator, especially for a book with historical or monetary value.

Following the process described in any entry is done at your own judgment and risk. Bookbinding involves sharp tools and materials that can permanently alter a book; we describe our own approach, not a guaranteed method.

Signature Count

Signature Count is offered as a lightweight companion tool for tracking collation notes on a personal project. It is not a substitute for formal archival or bindery records, and we make no guarantee that it is suitable for professional or institutional cataloguing.

Intellectual property

The text, layout, and original photography on this site belong to Kettlestitch unless otherwise noted. You're welcome to link to our entries; please don't republish full articles elsewhere without asking first.

No commercial transactions
